Just FYI

I've been having a hard time getting Blogger to upload pics the past few days. I'm definitely going to get some up tonight even if I have to sit here forever and hold its hand! There will be pics tomorrow for sure! :)

I have a ton of great ones from the past week, including the zoo, art day, shopping and playing in the sandbox at a restaurant last night with Michael. I'm sure you're waiting with bated breath...

Bass Pro and First Recorded Poetry Recitation

Michael had the day off yesterday for MLK Day and we decided to spend part of the morning at Bass Pro. We had a couple things we needed to pick up and knew Colin would enjoy the outing with the two of us. I even managed to snap a few pictures while we were there.

Colin loved all the animals, but the moose and elk may have been his favorites.
He pet a couple of the racoons too.
And watched the fish for a while. You can see partly here his first really fat lip. I'll try to get a good picture of it maybe tomorrow and tell you the whole story ~ let's just say that Colin and I both had a lot of blood to wash off us at church Sunday morning.
Here's a closer picture. I think if you didn't look at him all the time he wouldn't even look that bad from the outside. But it's pretty bad when you look in his mouth still.
At least three dozen times while we were there, Colin said this poem from a book David got him for Christmas. I don't know why I didn't think to record it then, but I did get a relatively decent rendition of it this morning...not as enunciated as he's done it before, but definitely better than his usual silence in front of the video camera lately.

Here's the words (ya know, in case you don't understand a stage-fright version of two-year-old speak ~ i.e. strange pauses and leaving out words that he normally says)...
An eye, an ear
I think I see a deer
Hiding behind that big tree.
A stomp, a flash
He's gone in a dash
I think that deer just saw me!

Ashley's Latest "Project"

So if you've been wondering what I've been up to lately, here's an update.

About a year ago I fell in love with digital scrapbooking and slowly began designing some of my own things. A few of the designers I'm friends with have encouraged me to enter a competition for a place to sell at my favorite store. I know some of you look at my layouts on my other blog already, but if not, you can get to it here.

Here's the kit I designed this week. We were given a color palette on Monday and then were free to design whatever we wanted. Well, the colors immediately reminded me of Colin's room, so I went with a dragon/prince theme.
There are a lot of awesome kits (25 actually) that have been entered and if you're curious, you can check them out at the store blog here.

**shameless plea for votes** If any of you are feeling ambitious and want to vote for me (catch is you have to register first), just go to the STS voting forum here. I'm not really expecting any of you to, but just if you're bored and need something to fill your Friday or Saturday, I'd love it! I've gotten a lot of good comments and a few votes already, so don't think I'll be eliminated just yet!

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about this and wanted to share with my friends and family. :) Wish me luck!

Chubby Fingers

I am daily amazed at the new things these chubby fingers learn to do. On Tuesday Colin helped me make tamales. I mean, actually helped make them. He always wants to sit on a barstool and watch what I'm doing and this afternoon was no different. I plopped him up there and went back to work on dinner, but he insisted on having his own corn husk. "Okay," I thought, "you can have a little piece of one." Then he pointed to the masa and said, "some a that," so I gave him a bit. And then he really shocked me.

He said, "mash, mash" as he smoothed it out, then said, "some meat," took a bit and put it in the middle of the tamale, said "I fold it," folded the thing in half and said "put on pan" as he held it out to me to stack with the rest I had made.

I was absolutely floored! Just by observing me, without any prompting he had completed all the necessary steps to make a tamale! Um, wow!

Needless to say, my little sous chef was hired and got to help for as long as he wanted! I couldn't have been more proud and saved and showed off two of the little tamales to his daddy and our friends when they arrived!

Today, he stunned me again when he brought me this little goose he had been playing with. He had found a tiny piece of paper and had figured out how to make it say in the goose's mouth! He always pretends he is feeding all his animals, but I thought this was so creative!
Here it is with a duck, "swimming" on the water!
Such a clever little man!

Playing With Camera

Just a random assortment of pictures now that I've finally gotten some time to play around with my new camera.
Trying to capture the falling snow and the tree.
Mom's beautiful nativity scene, made by my aunt Nola.
Grandpa Kermit reading books.
And my sweet husband.

First Snowball Fight

The snow at mom and dad's was perfect and we all had a great time playing in it while we were up there. I loved watching Colin's interest in the snow. We had been talking about snow for the past month and reading books, so he sort of understood the idea of snow men, and snowballs, and snow angels, but seeing it really seemed to make those concepts "click" for him!
Taking the first trip down the snow slide we built. And the snowball fight ensues...Poor sister!
If you look carefully, you can see a snowball about to hit Colin. He was pretty determined to hit each of us with one too. He'd carefully get a snowball and then get as close as he could and throw it at us! So cute!
