Hiking in Canyon State Park

After church this morning, we spent much of the afternoon hiking at a state park near us. It had great trails and they are putting in some primitive, hike-in camping that should be finished this summer. We were a little bummed it wasn't done now, because next weekend should be perfect for it! Colin did a great job - unsurprisingly, since he loves being outside - and snacked his way through his hike! :) Here are he and Michael at the trailhead:

Yep, cacti. Just had to throw that in for the folks back home. Weird to be hiking in this terrain.
Colin checking out what's in the pack for lunch.
Not a great picture, due to lighting, but proof I was there too. :)
Colin fell asleep on the way back to the truck. Poor baby.

Playing at the Park

Colin really seemed to enjoy raking his hands through the leaves, dirt, and sticks today when we met the girls at the park on base. He even tried to eat fewer rocks than last time. Michael was able to swing by on his lunch break for a couple minutes too - that made Colin's morning I think! :) He has been really upset this week each day when Michael leaves for work. Poor baby.

Before you say it moms: yes, I know I've got to convince him to start wearing shoes...He took off across the park like he knew where he was going. Oh boy.

Black-eyed Baby?

Only tomorrow will tell, but Colin may end up with a black eye. Go ahead, call CPS. He was trying to pet the dog and Percy moved. Colin got instantly mad and screamed and threw his head to the side. Right into the coffee table. Looked like it hurt. Happened too fast for us to do anything but sweep him up and check for blood.

Anyone got ideas on how to handle this temper of his? Seems like nearly anything can turn him from pleased as punch to mad as a hornet at a moment's notice...or no notice. Then he stays mad for such a long time. Arg. Soliciting advice...

Mischief

Yesterday when we were getting ready to go to the grocery store, I left Colin alone in the kitchen to run get my rain coat. This is what I came back to:

He is moving all Percy's food from the food dish into the water dish and then splashing around. Gross.
He has also learned to climb the stairs with no help. Here's a picture of Michael last night helping him learn to maneuver back down them again.

Dallas

As an excuse to see their new dog, we went over to the Hemperly's for the UT-OSU game. Mostly we had dinner and took pictures of the kids playing.

Colin and I wore our new shirts from my awesome friend Lindsey...whose cell number I obviously have wrong and who should call me back soon!!! We miss you!

Happy New Year's

Last night we went to Courtney and Ryan's house for New Year's Eve. We wanted to dress up for something even though none of us wanted to get sitters, so we put on our dresses and then changed into pj's later in the evening. We played games and stayed up pretty late for a bunch of "old" people.

New Year's baby.

Fondue!

Some of the yummy food we had last night at Courtney's. We had cheese, broth, and chocolate fondues with veggies, breads, meat, mushrooms, raviolis, potatoes, fruits, and cakes.

I thought this was particularly fun because since I was little, my extended family has always made fondue for New Year's. Six adults seems a bit more manageable than 30+ though!

Last 2008 Day at Park

We met the girls at the park on base Monday. Colin is liking the playground equipment more and more and didn't spend too much time trying to eat the rocks!

Ben also had the day off and played with Colin...much to his delight!
