Detox Day 1 - SA Zoo

Joe and Laura left Sunday and Michael headed back to work yesterday morning, so knowing what kind of day we were in for, Colin and I headed to the zoo for a few hours.

He mostly wanted to just stand and watch the different types of birds, so we spent most of the morning doing just that.
I convinced him to look at a few other things, but the birds were what held his interest.
This cracks me up!
Before heading home, we decided to stop and eat some granola bars while we watched monkeys.
And of course, a trip to the zoo wouldn't be complete without at least one bronze statue ride. :)

Any Given Sunday - For Kristen!

Here are my boys playing a bit of tackle football Sunday afternoon. :)

Corpus Trip (and some catchup pics)

Here are several pictures of our trip to drop Colin off, getting him back, and a trip to the ocean this past weekend.

Before we left, I got some pictures of Colin playing with some beads his Grandpa and Nana got him. He's getting pretty darned good at stringing them. I'm definitely impressed! I love the look of concentration he gets when he's doing it though.
Colin did such a good job telling us when he had to potty on the road and holding it until we got stopped!
He thought waking up in a pile of squishy hotel blankets was pretty great.
When he got back, one of the first things Colin did was rearrange some things in his room claiming, "that a not a s'pose a be there".
He also helped me water the garden. Later he had fun running naked through the hose, but no pics of that (wouldn't be fit for the internet anyway!).
The weather was gorgeous, so on Friday we went down to Corpus Christi. We got a few pics of the three of us before we changed into swim suits and got in the water. My legs need sun...

I have Corpus Christi pics from this weekend and zoo pics from yesterday that I'll try to upload later this afternoon or this evening!

A Happy Mother's Day

So glad to have my baby home!
Colin made me a photo holder in his SS class. They've been working on them several weeks because Miss Lori had to hush Colin a while back about the handprints, telling him it was a surprise for his mama.
Here's a scrapbook page I made with a kit I designed. The little boy was modeled after this afternoon with Colin. The pictures are from Easter and the flowers are some of the ones Colin has been picking for me. I tied them together with a piece of grass and then photographed them to use in the kit. :) I like how they turned out and the kit seems to be selling well as a Mother's Day kit for boy moms.
And, because they're just a little silly, some out takes of my attempt to actually get more than one decent picture of Colin and I. Futile attempts, I might add.
He looks upset, but he's actually saying "cheese" here. It doesn't help that he has humus and crackers in his mouth.
Love him anyway!

Being a Boy Mom...

I found this poem the other day and although Colin is just two, it's already so appropriate to my life in this testosterone-filled house. I love my life and wouldn't have things any other way! :)

Happy Mother's Day to all my friends and family!

Raising Boys
by Roberta I. Teague

I scrub the wall of fingerprints,
Pick up the mounds of clothes.
I sweep the dirt that shoes track in-
Wish I could use a hose!
Meals are served from dawn to dark,
Dirty dishes crowd the sink.
Just when they’re washed and put away-
Everyone wants a drink!
The washer pulls the dirty grime
From pants worn thin and patched.
They look so very neat and clean-
Yuck, look what the pockets hatched!
Broken bones and bloody knees,
I should have been a nurse.
I take it all in shaky stride-
Just grateful it’s not worse!
Screams and shouts and arguments
Test the keeping of my cool.
They left the neighbor’s faucet on-
See their new front yard pool!
A soothing bath is ecstasy,
A reward at the end of my rope.
Raising boys isn’t really bad-
But first I must wash the soap!
A rose can say I Love You,
Orchids can enthrall;
But a weed bouquet in a chubby fist,
Oh my, that says it all!
